Annual ‘Crowley Day’ celebration set for this weekend

The Homeland Civic and Social Organization will once again host the annual “Crowley Day Dance and Picnic,” which is set to take place this weekend at the Martin Luther King Center.
The event usually sees approximately 300 former Crowley residents travel back to the city for the festivities.
Now in its 14th year, “Crowley Day” will open with a dance Saturday night at the MLK Center. D.J. High Stepper will provide music for the dance from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Admission is $8, and the event is a “BYOB” affair. Ice will be provided.
The picnic, which is free and open to the public, will be held on the grounds of the MLK Center on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. While attendees are invited to “bring their pits, the Homeland Civic and Social Organization plans to provide food for all those who join them.
Picnic attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and refreshments, but glass containers and profanity are prohibited.
Former Crowley residents that travel here for the event are members of the Crowley Reunited Clubs in Houston, Texas, and Oakland, California. According to Sheral Garrick, “They come to Crowley every Labor Day. Houston hosts an event on Memorial Day and Oakland on the Fourth of July.”
