CP arrested for domestic incident

A Church Point police officer was arrested Saturday and continues to sit in jail stemming from a domestic incident in the town.
Terrance Garrick Jr., 28, faces charges of aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon, domestic abuse battery and attempted second-degree murder after his wife called the police and alleged that he tried to set her on fire.
According to reports, Garrick has been placed on leave without pay from the Church Point Police Department and his future with the department will be discussed at the town’s next council meeting in September.
This, however, doesn’t appear to be the first time Garrick’s name has been intertwined with a domestic incident. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested him for simple battery involving domestic abuse in January, just two months after he was first hired by the Church Point Police Department in November 2015.
In that incident, Garrick allegedly drove his police car to his wife’s mother’s home in Opelousas after she left their Church Point home, according to the arrest affidavit. The two were arguing over a comment on a Facebook photo and at some point, Garrick allegedly slapped his wife while she was holding a baby. Garrick denied slapping his wife, however, to authorities. Following that arrest, Garrick quit the Church Point Police Department, but when the charges were dropped by the St. Landry Parish District Attorney’s Office, Garrick returned to the department. He told Chief Albert Venable that the arrest was a misunderstanding between him and his wife.
In May, Garrick was reinstated as a part-time officer with the department. On July 11, he was rehired as a full time policeman.
