I-10 traffic rerouted ... again

Accident near Rayne exit halts traffic for hours

No serious injuries were reported, but westbound traffic on Interstate 10 was once again brought to a stand-still Tuesday, this time the result of a pair of crashes just west of Rayne. According to Rayne Police Chief Carroll J. Stelly, two 18-wheelers collided just west of the Rayne interchange around 10 a.m. Tuesday. Stelly said the driver of an eastbound tanker truck, swerving to avoid an earlier wreck in the eastbound lanes, lost control and crossed the median into the westbound lanes and was struck by a westbound rig. One of the truck drivers was treated at the scene by Acadian Ambulance medics. As has been the case often during the past couple of weeks, interstate traffic was rerouted through Rayne for hours as the trucks were separated and the lanes cleared. Also responding to the crash were Rayne Police Department and Rayne Volunteer Fire Department personnel. (Acadian-Tribune photos by Steve Bandy)
