crowley - It’s not often that a landlord reduces the rent, but that’s exactly what the Acadia Parish Police Jury will consider when it meets on July 12.
The jury’s Airport Committee will recommend that the rent on the three T-hangars at LeGros Memorial Airport be lowered by $100 a month.
“Right now the rent is $250 a month and we’ve been getting a few complaints that its too high,” said Chuck Broussard, committee chairman.
“I think we should lower the rent to $150 a month to keep it comparable to surrounding airports.”
The committee concurred and forwarded the recommendation to the full jury.
In other action Tuesday night, the jury’s Finance Committee approved the first change order on the construction of a new municipal building in the village of Morse.
The change order will add $13,492 to the contract cost and will:
• furnish and install cabinets, an additional teller window and additional electrical outlets in the receptionist area;
• furnish and install additional exterior day with an extended roof overhang, concrete landing and sidewalk for the access to the police department offices; and
• furnish and install plastic laminate doors in lieu of wooden doors.
Jonas Harrington of Mader Engineering said the additions raise the estimated final cost of the new building to $384,492, still well within the $423,000 grant.
Harrington added that the additions are pending approval by the state Office of Community Development / Disaster Recovery.
The new building is being funded through the Gustav/Ike Disaster Recovery Program.
The Road and Bridge Committee acceptd the lone bid of $137,600 submitteed by Quality Equipment for the purchase of a new tractor for the Crowley Barn.
The committee also will recommend approval of the purchase of additional warranty for two backhoes — one at the Iota Barn and one at the Branch Barn.
