UPDATE: CPD identifies victim in Saturday morning homicide

The Crowley Police Department is investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred in the 600 block of Ross Avenue in the City of Crowley.
At approximately 4:10 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Ross Avenue in regards to shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a crime scene with multiple casings at the scene. While on scene, a call was received that the victim of the shooting was at Acadia General Hospital.
Jarai Andrus, 21, of Crowley, was pronounced dead at Acadia General Hospital as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.
Information gathered states that the victim was a passenger in the vehicle being followed by the suspect vehicle, when subjects in the suspect vehicle began firing at the vehicle Andrus was riding in. Andrus was the only one to receive fatal injuries.
Detectives with Crowley Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle and subjects involved in this shooting. The subjects are believed to possibly live in Rayne. In releasing the statement on the shooting, Chief Jimmy Broussard of the Crowley Police Department stated, “We are still investigating particular motives in this drive-by shooting. We have some possible motives, but none have been confirmed as of yet.
“We will continue to investigate every possible lead, with the assistance of other local departments, to solve this heinous crime. For a person to die at the prime of their life through this means – no matter the reason – is inexcusable, and we will do all in our power to see that the suspect or suspects involved in this shooting are brought to justice.”
Broussard encouraged people to come forward with any information.
“This is someone’s child,” stated Broussard. “I want the public to think for a minute, ‘What if this was my child?’ and recognize that they would want someone to help them.
“So, we are asking you to assist this family by coming forward with information that will help bring some peace to this family during the most difficult time in their life.”
