Marcus Jacques Proctor rites set

A special Home Going Celebration will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Northside Assembly of God Church, 809 East Northern Avenue in Crowley, LA at 11:00 A.M for Marcus Jacques Proctor, 42, who was murdered in a robbery on Saturday, July 2, 2016, in Houston, TX. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley, Louisiana. Supt. Stephen Bradley of Shreveport, LA will eulogize him.
The elder of two children, Marcus was born on August 31, 1973 to Supt. James W. Proctor and Dr. Ezora J. Proctor in Crowley, LA at the American Legion Hospital.
Marcus was a 1991 graduate of Crowley High School with a 3.62 G.P.A. and ranked 12th out of 160 students. While in high school, he attended the Summer Engineering Institute at Southern University between his sophomore and junior years as well as between his junior and senior years. He was awarded an academic scholarship in Electrical Engineering and matriculated to Southern University in Baton Rouge. Later, Marcus attended and graduated with honors from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, TX and ITT Technical Institute in Houston with Associate of Applied Science Degrees.
Marcus served in Troop 345 as a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout. He played the trumpet in the school band from elementary through high school where he received many honors and awards. He was also an athlete at Crowley High School and participated in basketball and football. Marcus was named to the All District, All Acadia and the All State Academic team as a cornerback during the 1990 football season. He also played on the 1989 State Championship team at Crowley High School. Finally, Marcus served as a counselor at the City of Crowley Summer Camp.
In January 1994 Marcus enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and did his basic training in San Diego, CA. Later he transferred to the Army National Guard where he served until he received an Honorable Discharge.
Marcus was saved at an early age and was baptized by his father, Pastor James W. Proctor, at First Church of God in Christ in Jeanerette where he actively participated in the Sunshine Band, Youth Choir, Purity Circle, Young People Willing Workers, and Sunday School. He also served as the Minister of Music at First Church in Jeanerette from 1985- 2002 where he played the organ for four choirs and two special singing groups.
Marcus moved to Houston, TX and joined Yale Street Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Supt. Earl Nawlon and was the musician for the worship service and the choir for four years. He also played the organ for Restoration Assembly Church of God in Christ in Prairie View, TX with Elder P. Leon Preston and Philadelphia Church of God in Christ in Mossville, LA with Elder Donald Ruddison.
Marcus leaves a legacy of loving God and freely giving services to his church. He was known for his infectious smile and bigger than life personality. He was a compassionate and loving person who befriended everyone and formed endearing relationships. He was kind-hearted, unselfish, and caring as he assisted people in the community.
While he awaits the rapture, sweet memories will be cherished by his father, Supt. James W. Proctor, and Mother, Dr. Ezora Johnson Proctor, Crowley, LA; one sister, Trina Renee Proctor, Marietta, GA; two sons, Trevyn Cole Dugar and Taj Jacques Proctor of Houston, TX along with their mother, Tara Dugar; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Marcus was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. Simon and Mrs. Gertrude Proctor, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. Willie and Mrs. Madie Lee Johnson.
