DAR presents ‘Good Citizen Award’ to Acadia Parish students

Mrs. Elaine Simon, Chairman of the National Committee Defense Committee for the Louisiana Society Daughters of the American Revolution contacted the

Acadia Parish schools to present the Good Citizen Award.

Presenting awards for the Acadia Chapter were Regent Charlene Lacombe of Iota, Valerie Hensgens of Crowley, Florine Daigle of Church Point and Mrs. Elaine Simon of Crowley.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was organized in 1890. The objectives of the society are “to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence, to promote development of an enlightened public opinion and to foster patriotic citizenship.”

The organization accomplishes these goals in many different ways, such as sponsoring Veterans’ Day programs and other projects to honor our military, schools and this particular award, the Good Citizen Award.

These awards were presented to the following students, chosen by the faculty committee, who best exemplify the characteristics of honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism.

Recipients of the award in Acadia parish were, Caleb Bruce of Armstrong Middle School, David Bellard of Church Point Middle School, Therese Marie Richard of Crowley Middle School, Destani Whitaker of Egan Elementary, Caleb Mikel Breaux of Evangeline Elementary, Whitney Gibson of Iota Middle School, Rebekah Broussard of Midland High School, Joshua Doucet of Northside Christian School, Brittany Domingue of Redemptorist Grade School, Taylor Boulet of St. Michael Elementary School and Jaclyn Boone of Richard Elementary School.
