Hamlin attends Principals’ Institute

Louisiana’s High School 2008 Principal of the Year Bobby Max Hamlin of Rayne High School was honored, along with high school and middle school principals from every state in the Union, during a three-day Principals’ Institute, Oct. 24-26, held in Arlington, Virginia.

Also honored was Dr. Cheryl P. Milam, Louisiana’s Middle School Principal of the Year. She is principal of John Quincy Adams Middle School in Metairie, which has a student enrollment of 710 students.

Rayne High School provides education for 600 students.

The Principals’ Institute was sponsored by MetLife and the National Association of Secondary School Principals in association with the U.S. Department of Education.

While celebrating the singular honor bestowed on Hamlin and the other middle and high school principals, the institute is designed to provide a venue for networking among top performing principals.

“It was a good experience,” remarked Hamlin, as he described the opportunity to work with high and middle school principals. Of the 83 eligible to attend the Institute, 74 principals participated in a “working conference,” selecting six major projects for the National Association of Secondary School Principals to focus on in the coming year.

Each state winner received a specially-designed award during the closing banquet Saturday. Oct. 25.

“It was a fantastic experience,” admitted Hamlin.

Accompanying Hamlin to the Principals’ Institute was his wife, Shelley. Hamlin and his wife are from Ville Platte.
