CROWLEY – Both District Judge John Trahan and newly sworn in Crowley City Judge M’elise Trahan described 2008 as a “tough year for the Trahan family”. Suffice it to say, it ended on a very happy note.

In what Crowley Mayor Greg Jones described as a “historic occasion”, 15th Judicial District Judge John Trahan swore in his wife M’elise as Crowley’s new City Judge before a standing room only crowd in the City of Crowley Courtroom. Trahan replaces Judge Barrett Harrington who recently retired after serving for 26 years.

Before swearing in his wife, an obviously proud Judge Trahan had a few words for those in attendance.

“I would like to thank those here today to share this with our family,” he said. “I’d also like to congratulate M’elise as she embarks on a new chapter in her career and I know Crowley and Ward 6 can count on her for dedication and impartial service. It makes me proud to call her my wife and now my colleague.”

Judge Trahan then swore in his wife as her proud parents, Denald and Claire Beslin, looked on.

Judge M’elise Trahan had a few words for those in attendance.

“I’d like to start by thanking my parents and especially my father who served as Rayne’s City Judge for 34 years,” she said. “I’d also like to thank my husband John who is about to begin his third term ... he has taught me so much.”

Judge M’elise Trahan, who is Crowley’s first female judge, then performed her first duty as Crowley’s City Judge by swearing in her husband for his third term.

“I don’t ever think I’ve seen so much kissing during a swearing in,” joked Mayor Jones in to the laughter of those in attendance.

Glen Deville was also sworn in as City Marshall by Judge M’elise Trahan.
