Central Rayne Kindergarten welcomes new program

Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes at Central Rayne Kindergarten began the 2013-2014 school year by participating in a new program offered to only three Acadia Parish schools by the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory of Music. 

The Do-Re-ME! Program, only in its second year offered to schools in the area, also began classes at Crowley Kindergarten and kindergarten classes at Church Point Elementary. The three schools, chosen as the most at-risk schools at that age, were chosen to begin classes this fall.

The program is designed to reinforce the students’ classroom learning and give them a hands-on learning approach, which benefits some students more than instruction.

If the board likes the results, ASO and the board can begin the dialogue to find funding to expand the program’s presence throughout the parish.

Central Rayne Principal Christy Higginbotham noted a positive spin on the new program. “The students are really enjoying the new program and it is going well. What they are learning is also carrying over into their entire school day.”
