JUANITA TATMAN

September 13, 1918 - June 6, 2008

BAYOU CHICOT - Funeral services will be held for Juanita Tatman, 89, of Bayou Chicot, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 10 a.m., today, June 12. Burial will follow in the Ferguson Cemetery in Bayou Chicot.

Ms. Tatman, a native of Turkey Creek who spent most of her years living in Bayou Chicot, died Friday, June 6, 2008, in Tampa, Florida.

Survivors include one son, Robin Tatman and his wife, Diane, of Bayou Chicot; one daughter, Gwen Burcham and her husband, Harold, of Tampa, Florida; two sisters, Leona Andrus and Geneva Walker, both of Alexandria; six grandchildren, Cary Burcham, Noel Burcham, Paul Burcham, Grant Burcham, Nancy Tatman and Ashley Tatman; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey C. Tatman Sr.; and her parents, James and Rosa Russell.

JOYCE MANUEL BARZARE

Funeral services will be held for Joyce Manuel Barzare, 72, of Ville Platte, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Friday, June 13. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

A native of L’anse Aux Pailles, Ms. Barzare died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at Opelousas General Hospital. An avid baker of sweetdough pies, she was retired, having worked for Maison de Sante’ Nursing Home, now Heritage Manor Nursing Home, for over two decades.

Survivors include two sons, Michael J. Barzare and his wife, Judy Chelette Barzare, of Turkey Creek and Daniel B. Barzare and his wife, Denise Hayes Barzare, of Sunset; one daughter, Rita B. Deville and her husband, Larry, of Ville Platte; five grandchildren, Nichole Deville, Dustin Barzare, Angie Deville, Kevin Barzare and Taylor Deville; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Fusilier and Harris Bellard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Treville and Omerine Guillory Manuel; her husband, Horace Joseph “Hawk” Barzare; three brothers, Hebrade, Rodney and Elton Fontenot; and one sister, Belton Fontenot.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m., today until time of services Friday. A rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m. this evening.

DAMON M. THOMAS

October 9, 1968 - June 8, 2008

Funeral services will be held for Damon M. Thomas, 39, of Ville Platte, at St. John Baptist Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 14. Burial will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Ville Platte Medical Center.

Survivors include a special friend, Tracey R. Nelson of Ville Platte; his mother, Mary Ann Ardoin of Ville Platte; one step-daughter, Monee Nelson of Ville Platte; one son, Vontrevious Thomas of Ville Platte; one step-son, Geraldo Nelson of Ville Platte; five sisters, Cassie Sumbler of Oakdale, Celeste Vidrine of Eunice and Karen Thomas, Sandra Jones and Lavetta Ardoin, all of Ville Platte; and four brothers, Desmond C. Thomas, Schelling A. Thomas and Triviskie L. Ardoin, all of Ville Platte, and Kenneth D. Thomas of Houston, Texas.

Rev. Freddie Jack will officiate.

ROSS B. FONTENOT

BELAIRE COVE - Funeral services were held for Ross B. Fontenot, 88, of Baton Rouge, at the Sacred Heart Chapel in Belaire Cove at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 10. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Ville Platte, Mr. Fontenot died Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Hospital.

Survivors include one daughter, Joella F. Daigle and her husband, Louis, of Baton Rouge; and three grandchildren, Ricky Daigle, Sharon Jackson and Pam Wolfkill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alcie and Roseta Lafleur Fontenot; his wife, Bertha Deshotels Fontenot; one brother, Guillium Fontenot; and six sisters, Ida Bertrand, Rose Brown, Irma Veillon, Agnes Fontenot Donahue, Domma Young and Laura Fontenot.

JOYCELYN BORDELON

June 29, 1945 - June 6, 2008

PLAISANCE - Funeral services were held for Joycelyn Bordelon, 62, of Ville Platte, at the Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Ville Platte at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 8. Burial followed in the St. Andrew Cemetery in Plaisance.

Ms. Bordelon died Friday, June 6, 2008, at her residence. She was a Christian, God-loving woman who enjoyed praying, reading her bible and watching TBN. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she also loved and cherished her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Bonis of Ville Platte and Shane Fontenot of Plaisance; two daughters, Tammy Bonis of Ville Platte and Shannon George of Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdnand Bordelon; one son, Michael Todd Bonis; three brothers, Ryan, Roy and Terran Bordelon; three sisters, Ella Prudhomme, Verda Bordelon, and Sybil Godeaux; and one son-in-law, Michael George.
