Dr. Goldsby's office to close after 38 years of service to Amite

Dr. Reginald E. Goldsby has announced the end of his family medicine practice in Amite. The projected date for closure is in approximately three months. Dr. Goldsby will be working full time at Earl K. Long Medical Hospital in Baton Rouge.

Dr. Goldsby has been a medical doctor since 1969. Dr. Goldsby first began his practice in Amite in 1971. Before that time he practiced medicine in Kentwood. Dr. Goldsby has been certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) as a family medicine doctor for the last 35 years. Dr. Goldsby's mother, Mamie was an RN and the Director of Nurses at Lallie Kemp Medical Center for years. Dr. Goldsby's father, Omar was a pharmacist at Lallie Kemp. Dr. Goldsby attended medical school at LSU and trained at Earl K. Long Hospital.

In November, Dr. Goldsby was given an appointment to join the faculty of the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, LSY Health Sciences Center in New Orleans as a Clinical Professor.

Dr. Goldsby holds the seat as Amite Mayor and has for over 20 years. He assures the changes with his medical practice will in no way affect his position as mayor. "I'm not moving. I will continue to live close and commute to Baton Rouge Monday thru Friday to work," stated Dr. Goldsby.

Dr. Goldsby sees on average 30 to 40 patients a day in his office. At some point he has been a doctor to most of Amite's residents. Going to Earl K. Long full time, some 'personal doctor' factor will not be as prominent. "I'm going to miss my patients. I'm going to miss the personal contact with them," said Dr. Goldsby.

"I'm excited and anticipating something new. However, I'll dearly miss taking care of my patients here and I hope their have appreciated the care I have given them," stated Dr. Goldsby.

Plans for his office space (which is owned by Hood Memorial Hospital) and equipment are tentative at this point. Amite will be at a loss when Dr. Reggie Goldsby's office is gone. It is in some ways an institution in the town of Amite and even to those residents that travel to Amite to receive his expert care.
