The Rayne High Wolves stifled Morgan City Friday as they ended their homecoming week of actvities with a 36-0 shutout win over the Tigers.

“We kinda knew going in the game, we would have to keep our heads in the game,” commented Rayne High Coach Curt Ware of Friday’s win. “When you enter a game on this level, you have to keep doing what you need to do, without looking at the scoreboard.”

Yes, the Wolves offense scored three touchdowns in the first half od play, but also turned in a fumble in the proccess, not an option for Ware.

“We let things get a little sloppy towards the middle,” noted Ware of the Wolves’ down time as the half neared. “After halftime, we got our heads back in the game and tightened things up.”

The evening began early for the Wolves, scoring on their very first drive of the ballgame. Coming off a 49-yard gainer by Trent Duhon and a 20-yard completion by Tyler LeJeune to Jaylen Reed, Javon Cormier pushed his behind his offensive line for Rayne’s first seven. LeJeune then found Grant Menard in the endzone for a two-point conversion and an 8-0 Wolf led early on.

With their rushing game up against a stingy Rayne defense as Brice Meche nabbed a fumble in the first quarter, Morgan City tried to make gains in the air during the second; but, the Wolves had other thoughts. At their own 40-yard line, Tiger quarterback Hector Tolento was intercepted by Tyler LeJeune who scored on an interception return. Ty Delahoussaye split the uprights for the extra point and a 15-8 Rayne lead mid-way through the second quarter.

The Wolves finished the first half with a Duhon touchdown run and a Delahoussaye extra point for a 22-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw the Wolves keep it close to the chest with their running game, seeing Duhon score a 25-yard touchdown in the third quarter and Javon Cormier with a 12-yard TD run of his own. Delahoussaye donated two extra points for the 36-0 finale.

The Wolves racked up 383 total offesive yards on the night, 249 on the ground. Rayne rushing leaders were Trent Duhon with 141 yards on 10 carries and two TD’s, Javon Cormier (13 carries 49 yards, 2 TD’s), Charles Jones (3 carries, 18 yards), Byron Mouton (1 carry, 14 yards), Tyler LeJeune (2 carries, 12 yards), and T.J. Bearb (1 carry, 10 yards).

LeJeune completed five of nine passes on the night for 133 yards in the air. His receivers were Jalen Reed (3-57 yards), Carles Jones (1-58 yards) and Trent Duhon (1-18 yards).

The stingy Rayne defense, who limited the Tigers to only 24 offensive yards for the game, was led by Desmond Cole and T.J. Bearb, each with five tackles and two assists, followed closely by Andrew Broussard (4 and 4), Christian Hodges (3.5 and 3), Brice Meche (3 and 2), Donavon Cormier (2 and 4), and two tackles by Tyler LeJeune and D.J. Stelly.

LeJeune had the lone interception during the ballgame, while Johnathan Dugas, Brice Meche and Jalen Reed each fell on a fumble.

The Wolves will remain home next week as they will try to keep their record spotless when they host Eunice High Thursday evening during Rice Festival week. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Wolf Stadium.
