‘Bayou Voodoo’ at Cité des Arts in Lafayette Thursday

Crowley resident Mack Money will take over Cité des Arts in Lafayette Thursday night with his new play, “Bayou Voodoo.”

The play is actually the second installment in a series of the same name by Money.

Money not only wrote the play but will appear in it, along with Levy Easterly of “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” as the only survivor with knowledge of the secrets of bayou voodoo, which was taught while he operated “The Shining,” a shop on Simcoe Street in Lafayette.

The entire play takes place in the back room of a working voodoo store, where Easterly’s character inquires about the role of voodoo in some unresolved situations during his service as an undercover cop, and where he is now seeking peace of mind.

Claire Decker will join the cast as an apprentice, and Gina Portichier of Vicksburg, Mississippi, will soothe your soul with song.

According to Money, “This show is a factual account of true experiences and funny observations of the voodoo culture in Southeast Louisiana.

“The audience will enter a maze of true stories, while witnessing actual spells and rituals as taught to [me] by the ‘Old Ones’,” Money added.

Tickets are $15 each and can be reserved by calling (337) 291-1122.

They can also be purchased at http://www.citedesarts.org/Cite_des_Arts/Bayou_Voodoo.html.

Cité des Arts is located at 109 Vine Street, just off Jefferson Street,  in downtown Lafayette.
