New ‘Monday Night at the Movies’ lineup

The Acadia Parish Public Library has announced an all new “Monday Night at the Movies” lineup, and the new bill has something to offer for everyone.

Each movie will begin at 6 p.m. at the Crowley Headquarters, 1125 N. Parkerson Ave., and will be hosted by Dr. Richard C. Bier.

July 28 – “It Happened One Night” (1934), 103 minutes, B/W. In this movie directed by Frank Capra, a spoiled heiress (Claudette Colbert) is running away from her family. She is helped by a man (Clark Gable) who is actually a reporter looking for a story.

Aug. 4 – “They Drive By Night” (1940), 95 minutes, B/W. Two brothers (George Raft and Humprey Bogart) struggle as wildcat truck drivers; one comes to harm, the other is accused of his friend’s murder. This movie, directed by Raoul Walsh, also stars Ann Sheridan and Ida Lupino.

August 11 – “San Francisco” (1936), 115 minutes B/W. A Barbary Coast saloonkeeper (Clark Gable) and a Nob Hill impresario (Jack Holt) are rivals for the affections of a beautiful singer (Jeanette MacDonald), both personally and professionally in 1906 San Francisco. The film also stars Spencer Tracy as a Catholic priest who is a childhood friend of Gable.

August 18 – “So Proudly We Hail” (1943), 126 minutes, B/W. A group of nurses (Claudette Colbert, Paulette Goddard and Veronica Lake) returning from the war in the Phillippines recall their experiences in combat and in love.

August 25 – “The Roaring 20’s” (1939), 106 minutes, B/W. James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart attempt to make a living in Prohibitionist America after returning home from fighting together in World War I.
