Vermilionville to offer edible plant workshop

The next workshop in Vermilionville’s “Les Mains Guidées” series, which highlights a different craft from the old Acadian, Creole and Native American ways of life, will be “Edible Wild Plants.”

Mark Suter of Primitive Texas will be holding his “Edible Wild Plants” workshop at Vermilionville on Saturday, July 12, from 1p.m. to 5 p.m. The cost of the workshop, which is four hours long, is $50 per person. There is no minimum age for the workshop, but keep in mind that it will be held outdoors, with many walks through Vermilionville’s nature trails.

The class will consist of wild plant identification walks through the natural habitats of the area. Emphasis will be placed on physical plant characteristics, edible plant parts, proper plant preparation and available season of harvest. Some poisonous wild plants will also be covered, since these often grow right with the edible ones.
