100th birthday celebration honors Beatrice Nixon

Honored during “An Evening of Roses”

A celebration of 100 years of cherished life and “An Evening of Roses” was held Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 at the Rayne Civic Center Mural Room in honor of Mrs. Beatrice Harmon Nixon.

Mrs. Nixon was born Oct. 8, 1913 and was honored during a special 3 p.m. celebration by her family.

She and her husband, the late Isaac Nixon Sr., are the parents of eight children, Georgia Mae St. Julian, Sam Nixon, Delia Mae Price, Leroy Nixon, Ora Lee Young, LJ Nixon, Isaac Nixon Jr. and Georgia Marie Cooper.

She is the grandmother of 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, most of whom were in attendance for the special celebration.

The welcome was extended by Kathalyn Syrie and Kimberly Price, with the honoree and her children leading the processional.

The Rev. Jessie C. Banks, Maryland Chapel CME Church delivered the opening prayer, with musical selections provided by the Salt of the Earth Gospel Choir under the direction of Larry Wiltz.

Mayor Pro-Tem Paul Molbert and City Councilman Mike Doucet made special presentations on behalf of the City of Rayne, a special proclamation and key to the city.

Ferrin Honoré and Krystal Casmire read a special poem in Mrs. Nixon’s honor, in addition to a bouquet of roses made by Kameron Nixon and Tyrin Nixon.

“Happy Birthday” was sung by everyone for the birthday honoree, followed by the blessing of the food by The Rev. Lionel St. Julian.

Guests were served barbecued chicken with all the sides, in addition to a special “100” white birthday cake decorated with red roses.
