18th annual Labor Day weekend event a success

Once again this year the Crowley chapter of the Homeland Civic and Social Organization saw its annual Labor Day weekend event, “Crowley Day,” now in its 18th year, turn out to be a success.
The organization hosted clubs from Houston and California, with a large number of former Crowley residents traveling back for the weekend.
A dance at the Martin Luther King Center on Saturday, Sept. 3, kicked off the weekend’s events, which culminated with the annual Labor Day picnic, also held at the MLK Center, on Sunday, Sept. 4.
Approximately 150 guests were in attendance at the picnic, now in its 14th year, which included BBQ prepared by various cooks including Walter Andrus, Felix Allen, Byron Batiste and J.C. Normand, the RV Club members and other community supporters. There were also food, snacks and prizes for the kids, and music provided by D.J.’s.
Members of the Crowley chapter of the Homeland Civic and Social Organization working hard to make the weekend a success included Andrus, Anthony Bias, Nelwyn Bolden, Marie Breaux, Nancy Francis, Sercelina Castille, Sheral Garrick, Milton Goodwin, Stephanie Goodwin, Lou Grant, Howard Guillory, Glady Henderson, Joycie Harris, Windell Milson and Jeanette Shepherd.
The organization would like to thank the mayor, various area businesses and city employees for their support and assistance with the event.
