Afternoon bridal shower honors Marci Doucet

An afternoon bridal shower was held Saturday, June 7, in honor of Marci Elizabeth Doucet of New York City, formerly of Rayne, bride-elect of David Kavanagh McGovern, also of New York City.

The social was held at the home of Miss Doucet’s parents, Malcolm and Margaret Doucet of Rayne.

The prospective groom is the son of Erin and Stephen McGovern of Cranston, Rhode Island.

Hosting the afternoon courtesy were Kathy Doucet, Margaret G. Doucet, Margaret L. Doucet, Stephanie Leger, Yvette Ohlenforst, Karen Racca, Annette Simon and Marlene Thibodeaux.

Guests were served an aray of refreshments and fingerfoods, including chicken wraps, meat pies, boudin, shrimp, crab and pepper jelly dips, bruschetta cheese, fig goat cheese and prosciutto bundles, pralines, petit fours, s’mores bar, and a number of beverages.

The food table held mini chalkboards that were used to label the different food and drink items. A larger chalkboard held the important dates of the couple and 3-D stars created with map paper adorned the entertaining area.

The Doucet home was also decorated in honor of the couple’s travels with cut-outs of each state country they have visited. A vintage suitcase held gift cards, while an advice jar was provided for guests could add to their “journey” into marriage.

For the special occasion, Miss Doucet wore a vintage white chiffon maxi dress detailed with a hand-embroidered floral design. She completed her attire by wearing jewelry handed down from her mother and grandmother.

Approximately 40 guests were in attendance from Rayne, Crowley, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Mandeville, Monroe and South Dakota.

Special guest in attendance was the bride-elect’s maternal grandmother, Dorothy O. Leger of Rayne.

Marci and David will be married on Saturday, July 19, 2014, during a 3:30 p.m. ceremony  at Our Lady of Mount Carmel on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, followed by a reception on site.
