Crowley Garden Club wreath sale set

The October meeting of the Crowley Garden Club was held at the home of Sissy Gall, who, along with Ruth McBride, treated the members to a variety of sandwiches and sweets.

The group learned about the Historic Oak Society,  which has only oak trees as members. The society is actually a registry of live oak trees in Louisiana and surrounding states. The only human member is the secretary who registers the trees into the society.

To be a member, a tree must be at least 16 feet in diameter around its girth, which measurement indicates the tree to be 100 years old or older. Anyone wishing to enroll a tree into the society may call any Crowley Garden Club member for assistance.

Those in attendance enjoyed reporting about native plants they have growing in their yards, which qualifies the club for a special conservation award. The award is given to garden clubs whose members have at least one plant native to Louisiana growing in their yards.

Business for the afternoon included “Plant It Pink Day,” which is scheduled for Oct. 29, and the Garland, Wreath and Poinsettia Sale.

For sale will be 25-inch fragrant balsam wreaths and 24-inch balsam door swags decorated with pine cones and waterproof red velveteen bows, at a cost of $20 apiece.

Evergreen garlands will be available in 15- and 25-foot coils for $25 and $35, respectively.

Poinsettias are $20 apiece, come in 6 1/2 pots with decorative colors and are available in red, white and pink.

The club will be taking orders Nov. 1 through Nov. 16, with delivery in the first week of December.

For more information or to place an order, contact Christie Brammer or any Garden Club member.
