DelaHoussaye hosts national society president

Crowley resident Barbara delaHoussaye recently hosted the National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor’s National President General, Linda Lanier Rice, for the Spring Assembly of the Louisiana State Society.
DelaHoussaye is the president of the Louisiana State Society.
President Rice arrived from her home in Lynchburg, Virginia, on the morning of Friday, May 1. She was greeted at the Lafayette airport by delaHoussaye and Dames of the Court of Honor members Mary Wark of Greenwood, Elizabeth Harrell of Shreveport and Sharon McAvoy of Karrack, Texas. After motoring back to the delaHoussaye residence, the group was joined by member Elaine F. Boston and husband Larry Boston of Folsom, at which time they visited and enjoyed refreshments.
That afternoon, Charlotte Jeffers, tourism coordinator of Crowley, escorted the group on tours of the Grand Opera House, where they were greeted by Kim Gielen Gattle, and the Crowley Motor Company Building/Crowley City Hall. Rice, of course, particularly enjoyed the Rice Interpretive Center. Jeffers entertained the group with stories and short films on the history of Crowley, rice and the JD Miller Music Recording Studio.
President General Rice was so impressed that she suggested that Crowley host the National DCH Meeting in the foreseeable future.
Afterwards, Jeffers was invited to the delaHoussaye home for cocktails and appetizers, as well as to join the group at Chef Roy’s restaurant in Rayne, where they enjoyed a wonderful dinner and more Louisiana stories.
Saturday the group traveled to Lafayette to meet other members of the Louisiana State Society at Don’s Seafood and Steakhouse for a meal and a productive semi-annual meeting.
After the meeting, the group disbursed to all points of Louisiana and Texas, but President General Rice elected to stay another day with delaHoussaye. They toured New Iberia and returned to spend the night in Crowley before President General Rice departed Sunday for her home in Virginia.
