CPD investigating Saturday homicide; APSO arrests 2 in Friday shooting

Separate incidents mean busy weekend for local law enforcement

Information provided by the Crowley Police Department and Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office.

Local law enforcement agencies have had a busy weekend in Acadia Parish.

The Crowley Police Department reports it is investigating a homicide which occurred at 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

The incident occurred in the 1000 block of West Seventh Street in Crowley.

Information in the case is currently slim and authorities have not yet established motive, but investigators are currently following up on several strong leads, according to the department.

What is known is that the victim, a male, was confronted by the suspect inside of a residence. The suspect shot the victim several times in the torso and leg area. The victim died at a local hospital.

More information will be released as it becomes available in the Crowley homicide.

For the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, two arrests have already been made in an early Friday morning shooting near Rayne.

This incident, which occurred at about 3 a.m. on the corner of U.S. Highway 95 and Tanner Road.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon following an investigating into the incident, investigators obtained a warrant of arrest for 18-year-old Jake A. Kebodeaux of Ethienne Street in Maurice. He was arrested without incident on Friday afternoon and placed in the Acadia Parish Jail charged on five counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Sunday afternoon, a second suspect, 19-year-old Tyler Carpenter of Dulles Drive in Scott turned himself into authorities in Acadia Parish. He is also being charged with five counts of attempted second-degree murder.

District Judge John Trahan set bond at $100,000 on both Carpenter and Kebodeaux.

The Scott Police Department assisted the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

The investigation into this incident also continues.
