LSP releasing no further details

Man described as ‘being depressed’

Louisiana State Police Public Information Officer Brooks David said on Tuesday that his office would be releasing no additional details on the officer-involved shooting in the Hockaday Heights subdivision on Monday.

The state police have taken over the investigation, as is standard procedure when an officer from another agency is involved.

David said a man inside the home fired a number of times as Crowley police arrived. The Crowley officers returned gunfire, killing the man, he said. David said more information could be released later.

Neighbors and people at the scene, however, said that the man who was shot, who they identified as Melvin LeBlanc, had been depressed and had threatened suicide.

It is unknown whether the man’s mental state played a role Monday’s shooting.
