Rep. Montoucet appointed chairman of La. Rural Caucus

The Louisiana Rural Caucus announced the election of officers for 2014-2015. Representative Jack Montoucet of Crowley has been re-elected to lead the 88-member group of legislators.

The officers are Representatives Jack Montoucet of Crowley, Chairman; Bernard LeBas of Ville Platte, Vice Chairman; and Dorothy Sue Hill of Dry Creek, Secretary/Treasurer.

As chairman, Montoucet appointed seven caucus members to serve with the officers on the executive committee. They are Representatives Jerry Gisclair of Larosa, Terry Landry of New Iberia, Eugene Reynolds of Minden and Clay Schexnayder of Gonzales, and Senators Rick Gallot of Ruston, Gary Smith of Norco and Francis Thompson of Delhi.

Montoucet said the officers pledged to serve the constituents of the state and to promote the ideals and objectives of rural Louisiana. The members of the caucus work to find consensus on common ideas and share solutions that address these issues.

“Rural areas make up a large portion of the state of Louisiana, and I am honored to be a part of such an important effort. My fellow members and I will work together to resolve issues facing rural Louisiana, and always keep the needs of our constituents first,” said Montoucet. 

Elected to the House in 2007, Montoucet serves on the House Appropriations, Natural Resources and Environment, and Retirement committees, as well as the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. He is also a member of the Acadiana Delegation and the Democratic Caucus. Montoucet represents House District 42, which encompasses part of Acadia and Lafayette parishes.
