Readers of all ages are invited to explore active events like sports and fitness as the Rayne Library presents “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read” during the Summer Reading Program through Aug. 6.
Children ages pre-K through fourth grade living in the Rayne area are invited to attend and enjoy storytime, explore different sports and activities, crafts, healthy foods, and much more.
And children don’t have to attend every session, all children are welcome to join the program any time before Aug. 6
The program will be held at each of the local branches of the parish library system. In Rayne, the program will be held at 10:30 a.m. every Thursday, while movie matinees here will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Upon registration, each child will receive a colorful reading log to record the books read and a colorful bookmark. After a child reads 10 books, his or her name is placed on a wall display in the library and a prize is awarded.
When a child reads 20 books, he or she will receive a special certificate. For every 10 books read after the certificate, the child’s name will be placed on the display board and a prize awarded
Everyone attending must have a valid Acadia Parish Library Card.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children for a fun-filled summer through stories and crafts that will have children eager to investigate by reading books. The children will participate in various activities based on the theme of the day.
T-shirts and bags with the “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read” logo will be available for the public to purchase at each branch of the library.
This year’s grand finale will include The Harvey Rabbit and Friends Show at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Rayne High School gym.
