After the passing of Acadia Parish School Board Member Israel Syria on March 19, the board will look to find a temporary resolution to the vacancy left and a permanent one during a special session Wednesday, April 1.
The session, officially called Monday morning by board President Douglas J. LaCombe, will begin at 5 p.m. at the John A. Bertrand Administrative Building of the Acadia Parish School Board, located at 2402 N. Parkerson Ave. in Crowley.
The meeting is open to the public
Two items are on the agenda of the special session:
• Consider calling a special election to fill the vacancy in District 1 of the Board.
• Consider appointment of a temporary replacement for the vacancy in District 1 of the board until a special election is held.
The special election would likely be held Oct. 24, with a runoff, if necessary, Nov. 21 and qualifying Sept. 8-10.
Syria was re-elected to the District 1 seat in November last year, but due to illness had missed several meetings since his re-election. The board was sworn in to serve their positions in January, leaving more than three years on Syria’s term.
