Trash not picked up? Call landfill

Residents are being urged to call the Acadia Parish Landfill to report missed garbage collections.

A.J. “Fatty” Broussard, chairman of the police jury’s solid waste committee, said residents should call 783-4834 if their solid waste is not picked up on the designated day.

The collection contract provides a $250 daily fine for each day garbage is not picked up within 24 hours of notification. 

“Don’t call Progressive (Waste Solutions), call the landfill,” he said. “We can’t fine them if we don’t know.”

Broussard said the landfill office keeps a log of missed pickups and it’s those records that are needed before the fines can be levied.

“We’re still having trouble — really bad trouble — with collections,” Broussard said.

For the past two months, the jury’s Solid Waste Committee has heard complaints of missed pick-ups — sometimes involving entire streets or neighborhoods.
