Rayne police arrest Chester Sam of Duson

On Thursday, July 30, Rayne police officers arrested Chester Sam, 36, of Duson, for Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana (3rd Offense), Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule III CDS: Hydrocodone, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV CDS: Alprazolam and Prohibited Acts: Drug Paraphernalia.
Chief Stelly advised that around 6:15 p.m., Rayne police officers initiated contact with a suspected drug trafficker at a local convenience store.  During the course of the investigation, officers located three pounds of marijuana, numerous Hydrocodone tablets, Alprazolam tablets and drug-distribution related paraphernalia.
Chief Stelly remarked, “Chester Sam is a habitual drug trafficker with a history of drug arrests.  Sam is known to be tied into a larger narcotics distribution ring operating parish-wide.”
Chief Stelly added “Chester Sam was discharged from his Texas supervised probation sentence 5 days ago, but is actively on probation in Louisiana for prior drug offenses until 2017.
This arrest is anticipated to trigger the revocation of Sam’s probation, requiring him to serve the remaining sentence for his prior arrests.  In addition to Sam’s arrest, the Rayne Police Department has initiated civil forfeiture proceedings to forfeit his 2007 Jeep Liberty SUV to the city of Rayne to help offset the cost of the narcotics related investigations to the taxpayers.”
Chester Sam was booked into the Rayne Police Department jail and Commissioner Thomas Frederick placed a $125,000 bond for these offenses.  However, the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections has issued a probation hold on Sam preventing his release on bond.
