Pecan Island school for sale

PECAN ISLAND - Christmas is about four weeks away and you can not figure out what to give your outdoor person for Christmas? How about the largest hunting/fishing camp in Louisiana?

It is located in a prime duck and fishing area in Louisiana. It’s right off a state highway and minutes away from the marsh. Space is no problem. There are 39,000 square feet under roof on five acres of land.

The possible camp has an indoor Olympic swimming pool. There is also a full-sized basketball court that comes with two dressing rooms. There are tennis courts and a cinder walking track behind the school.

It sits on a ridge that is the highest piece of land in Pecan Island and has never flooded.

Have lots of friends?

No problem, because this camp has lots of rooms that could be made into bedrooms. There are 13 rooms and a huge cafeteria that was built to cook for more than 100.

The price tag on this one-of-a-kind building is $750,000, which may be a bargain considering the potential.

The school has been closed for three years due to the storm surge of Hurricane Rita. Although the school did not flood, a majority of the homes in Pecan Island did. Many residents who had children attending the school in Pecan Island migrated north to Kaplan.

The School Board voted to close the school three years ago because of the lack of families living in Pecan Island.

Since then, the school has been sitting empty.

Last week a for-sale sign was placed in front of the school.

The School Board, in the meantime, has been cleaning the old school because there was leak in the roof. But the School Board said the leak will be repaired and the school cleaned and mold-free for the new buyer.

James Noel, the owner of Sunrise Reality which is the real estate company in charge of selling the school, said he put the for-sale signs out because it’s duck season. Noel is hoping that someone who works for or owns an oil company sees the signs and calls.
