3-A State Honorees
Ryan Leonards, of 2010 baseball champion Notre Dame, and Jacee Blades, of softball runner-up Parkview Baptist, headline the selections of players named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A All-State teams.
In leading Notre Dame to a state title, Leonards was 9-1 as a pitcher and hit .517 with eight home runs and 45 runs batted in during the 2010 season.
Meanwhile, Blades overcame a knee injury to post a .525 batting average with six doubles and 11 RBIs.
Rayne High’s Deserea Dunn (softball) and Bobby Gilliam of Loyola Prep (baseball) garnered Coach of the Year honors for the squads selected by a panel of sportswriters from across the state of Louisiana.
Dunn led the Rayne High Lady Wolves to semifinals, while Gilliam’s Loyola squad advanced to the quarterfinal round.
Pitchers picked for the softball squad were Mariel Meche of Rayne High (24-6), Hanna Gill, of Albany (27-5); Brittany Daigrepont, Avoyelles (32-3); and Kelsea Wallace, Buckeye (6-0).
Pitchers picked for the baseball squad are: Austin Robichaux of Notre Dame (9-1); Heath Thiel, E.D. White (11-1); Cole Prejean, Brusly (11-2); and Dalton Torres, Livonia (11-2).
Meranda LeBlanc of Notre Dame (.384), and Stuart Turner of Eunice (.410), made the squads as catchers in the softball and baseball listings, respectively.
Joining Blades in the softball infield are Kaitlin Kates, of Berwick (.578); Meagan Pearson, North DeSoto (.464); and Kayla Tobey, Buckeye (.353).
Outfielders are Terresita Vallery, of Kaplan (.383); Lauren Jolivette, Catholic-New Iberia (.450); and Alex Boulet, Notre Dame (.451).
The baseball infield consists of first baseman Boyd Bergeron, of Livonia (.404); second baseman Tyler Chapman, Iowa (.488); shortstop Philip Lyons, E.D. White (.505); and third baseman Connor Goss, Notre Dame (.449).
The outfielders are Shea Simmons, of Catholic-New Iberia (.434); Clayton Curry, Brusly (.441); and James Coats, Parkview Baptist (.358).
Joining Leonards as utility choices on the baseball squad are Tyler Bonaventure, of Brusly (.451); Gabe Woods, Albany (.512); Joe Broussard, Holy Cross (.419); and Brady Wilson, Parkview Baptist (9-2).
Two Parkview players, Brooklyn Guillot (14-4) and Victoria Hugghins (.380), are among the softball utility players, with Maggie Bradshaw, of Westlake (17-5); Katelyn Hines, Avoyelles (.459); and Hannah Godeaux, Notre Dame (22-8) completing the selections.
