The wedding party stood beneath a trellis made of bamboo with white tulle encircling the bamboo and large starfish as the focal point.

Mr. Bergeron escorted his daughter, Nicole, to her awaiting bridegroom Jules. She was wearing a strapless ivory taffeta form fitting gown in the mermaid style. The front of the bodice featured two sets of broach effect seed pearls. The same pearls were interspersed throughout the gown and the semi-cathedral train. The back of the gown featured self-covered taffeta buttons to the bottom of the gown. She wore a waist-length tulle veil. Nicole carried a hand-held bouquet of coral roses and coral miniature calla lilies, held together by white satin ribbon and a cluster of large pearls. She wore pearl drop earrings to complete her bridal attire.

In keeping with tradition the bride wore her late grandmother’s broach as something old, her wedding dress as something new, her veil was something borrowed and something blue was her garter.

Serving as matron of honor was the bride’s godmother, Velma Huval. She choose a two-piece knee-length dress of sage green. The thigh-length jacket, in the same color, added interest to the dress. She also carried a bouquet of coral roses.

Serving as best man was Jody Herbert, long time friend of the groom of Iota. He wore a white cotton shirt with khaki colored linen slacks and a miniature coral calla lily. Jody held the wedding rings in a seashell encrusted case.

Flower girl was Mary Ellen Herbert, daughter of Jody and Angie Herbert of Iota. Ellie wore a sleeveless white cotton A-line dress and a coral colored flower in her hair. She carried a silver sand pail with flowers, raffia ribbon and sea shells.

Ring bearers were Thor Stewart, nephew of the groom and son of Amanda and Asa Stewart of Iota, and Drake Boutte, godchild of the bride and son of Lanette and Ernie Boutte.

The groom wore a white cotton shirt and an ivory colored linen suit. He wore a coral calla lily in his lapel and a special handkerchief loaned to him by his aunt Kath.

The handkerchief belonged to his late cousin Patrick Doyle. When Patrick’s brother and his friends were married, his aunt would have their names and the dates of their weddings engraved on the handkerchief, in memory of Patrick. She has now added the names of Jules and Nicole on the handkerchief.

Mrs. Brenda Pierette Bergeron, mother of the bride, chose a gold dupioni gown with a balloon effect bottom and a matching gold short banded sleeve bolero to compliment the attire.

Mrs. Nell LaCasse Bruchez, mother of the groom, wore chocolate wraparound pants with orange embroidered flowers on the bottom. She wore a white double V-neck top with kimono sleeves, featuring crochet throughout the blouse.

Both mothers were presented with bouquets of coral roses.

A wedding reception honoring the couple was held on Friday, May 15 at Poche’s Country Club in Breaux Bridge. The round tables were covered in white clothes accented with assorted sizes of vases and hurricane lamps containing sand, lit candles and sea shells in a variety of sizes and sea grass.

The serving table held a large arrangement of assorted flowers. Guests were served a variety of foods including cracklings, pork jambalaya, pork roast with pocket bread, miniature crawfish pies, boudin, meatballs, fried chicken, egg rolls, chicken salad sandwiches and vegetable and relish trays.

It featured waves and bubbles and was surrounded with real and edible sea shells. The top of the cake held a large starfish. The cake contained fillings of strawberry, lemon poppy seed and carrot. The cake was made by cousin of the groom, Marlene Gotte of Iota. The back drop was a white armoire and columns wrapped in tulle and white lights.

The groom’s table was also covered in a white cloth and had French doors with white sheers and columns featuring white tulle and white lights. The groom, with the help of a friend, made his own groom’s cake. It was in the shape of sand castles complete with turrets and flags. The groom’s godmother, Chris LeJeune of Iota, served the cake.
