Charlene Melancon announces candidacy for School Board

Charlene Richard Melancon is announcing her candidacy for the District Two seat on the Acadia Parish School board in the upcoming October 2nd election.

Melancon is a 1971 graduate of Acadiana High and the 1975 Graduate of University of Southwestern Louisiana with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After graduating from U.S.L. Melancon taught for two years in public as well as parochial school system. Melancon is presently retired after working for the State of Louisiana for twenty-seven years as caseworker for abused and neglected children and families. She is a life long resident of Acadia Parish and has been residing in Crowley

for many years.

She is married to Wayne A. Melancon, Sheriff of Acadia Parish, also a life long resident of Acadia Parish. They have

one son, Chris Melancon, a daughter-in-law, Karla, and two grandchildren, Macy, age seven, and Tyler, age fifteen.

“As a retired resident in my community, I feel, if elected, I can devote my energy and attention to serving as a member of the Acadia Parish School Board so that I may work with parents, school personnel, teachers, and other school board members in providing our community with an educational program that helps our children to thrive and reach their full educational potential while maintaining sound fiscal practices.

“In the past, while working with families in crisis, I have had the opportunity to work very closely with many of the schools, school officials, and teachers while accessing educational services for each individual school age child in these families. I have worked with children who were gifted, behavior disordered, austic, fetal alcohol affected, physically challenged as well as mentally challenged. I understand the frustration teachers feel in reaching children with special needs all the while trying to provide the best learning environment for all of the children in the classroom. I also understand the heartbreak and sense of frustration that parents feel when their children are having problems adjusting emotionally and achieving their full academic potential in the school system. I have also experienced great satisfaction when a child is successful due to the parent, child, and teacher working as a team.”

“If Acadia Parish is to continue to have positive growth and change, our prosperity depends on our school system’s ability to prepare and educate our children to become adults who are successful and productive citizens.”

“As a parent and a grandparent, I have a strong desire to work with the school system and families in effort to build on the positive changes that have been made in the past which will ultimately benefit our children and our community in the future.”

“I look forward to meeting the residents of District 2 in the coming weeks to hear their wishes and concerns regarding the future of our school system. I would appreciate your vote and support for my candidacy for the Acadia Parish School Board, District Two. Please email me at tylermacy02@bellsouth.net or call me at 337-783-8198 with any questions or concerns you might have.”
