Update on Michael Patin Homicide Investigation

Through the investigation efforts of Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Deputies an arrest has been made in the homicide of 49 year old Michael Patin of Arnaudville. The shooting was reported to Lafayette 911 at 11:12 PM the suspect was taken into custody by Lafayette City Police and Sheriff’s Deputies prior to 6 AM this morning. The suspect is 15 years old.

The continuing investigation has indicated that a serious of crimes involving this suspect as well as others ranging in age from 12 to 16 years old, 5 additional juveniles have been charged with criminal trespassing, unauthorized use of a movable and illegal possession of stolen things. None of these 5 juveniles are considered to be directly involved in the murder of Patin.

February 2, 2014

9:14 PM deputies called to Jockey Lot at 3011 NW Evangeline Thruway for a theft in progress, caller describes 5 young black males on the property attempting to break in. As deputies are responding the caller reports that the males attempt to leave in a vehicle they arrived in however they crash the vehicle and flee on foot. Deputies assisted by Lafayette and Carencro PD set up perimeter and search with Canine Dogs capturing 4 of the juvenile suspects. Deputies also determine that the vehicle used by the suspects had been stolen some days earlier in the city of Lafayette.

11:05 PM deputies leave the scene transporting the suspects to Sheriff’s Office for questioning, the stolen vehicle was towed away.

11:12 PM deputies called back to Jockey Lot concerning the shooting of Michael Patin, law enforcement arrives at 11:15 PM, Patin is transported by Acadian Ambulance to Lafayette General where Patin is pronounced dead. Deputies learn that the suspect shot victim once and then fled in the victim’s vehicle.

5:47 AM 15 year old suspect captured by Lafayette PD and Lafayette SO in the city of Lafayette, victim’s vehicle recovered.

The investigation is continuing and the involvement of these subjects into other crimes remains under investigation
