Frederick "Fred" John Zaunbrecher

GUEYDAN – Services for Frederick “Fred” John Zaunbrecher, 80, were held Monday, June 16, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan with Father Mitchell Guidry officiating. He died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at his Gueydan residence. He was born in Branch to Joseph and Mary Odelia Klein Zaunbrecher. A rosary was recited Sunday evening at 7 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus Association. The interment will be in the Gueydan Cemetery.

Mr. Zaunbrecher was a retired rice and soybean farmer. He loved to work with the area 4-H club and live stock shows. He was also was a founding member of the 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, a member of the co-op, and a heart filled supporter of St. Peter’s Catholic School.

Survivors include his spouse, Laura Woods Zaunbrecher of Gueydan; a mother-in-law, Edmae Woods of Mermentau; six sons, John Zaunbrecher of Gueydan and wife Phyllis, Kevin Zaunbrecher of Kaplan and wife Donna, Matthew Zaunbrecher of Gueydan and wife Sabrina, Hugh Zaunbrecher of Gueydan and wife Sherry, Aaron Zaunbrecher of Gueydan and wife Madlyn, and Andrew Zaunbrecher of Sour Lake, Texas and wife Nicole; seven daughters, Aimee Z. Bercier of Lafayette and husband Conrad, Teresa Z. Richard of Gueydan and husband Glenn, Julia Z. David of Gueydan and husband Johnny, Cecilia Z. Bertrand of Gueydan and husband Gerald, Clarissa Z. Benoit of Gueydan and husband Grayson, Kay Z. Johnson of Gueydan and husband Carl, and Dina Zaunbrecher of Morse; five brothers, Phillip Zaunbrecher of Hayes, Richard “Top” Zaunbrecher of Gueydan and wife June, Charles Zaunbrecher of Gueydan, Ronald Zaunbrecher of Lake Arthur and wife Eldie, and William “Bill” Zaunbrecher of Gueydan and wife Nona; one sister, Dorothy Toups of Gueydan and husband Ellis; one sister-in-law, Bessie Zaunbrecher of Hayes; 42 grand children, Valerie Dawn, Gil Blaine, Katie Sue, Natalie Marie, Korie Ellen, Leslie Laura, Jena Elizabeth, Lauren Claire, Jenifer Nichole, Vincent Frederick, Cody Christopher, Ross David, Adam Nicholas, Bryson Cole, Augustus Luke, Sarah Nicole, Brittany Jade, Brent Paul, Caleb Matthew, Kevin Lorenz, Amelia Jean, Samantha Dominique, Abbey Lynn, Sydney Clare, Ty Andrew, Olivia Ann, Ethan Samuel, Clay Anthony, Erin Kay, Gabriel John Frederick, Alexander Hugh, Andrew Calhown, Emma Catherine, Collin Stewart, Ryan Christopher, Gerald Scott, Kye Anthony, Tiffany Claire, Lacey Marie, Kiley Ann, Jude Patrick, and Jake Micheal; and five great-grand children, Matthew James, Haden Dominique, Maegan Claire, Elijah John, and Asa John.

Preceeded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wilfred Zaunbrecher and Julian and wife Laura Zaunbrecher of Thornwell; two sisters, Mary and husband Nolan LeBlanc, and Antoinette Zaunbrecher; and also one sister-in-law, Helen Zaunbrecher.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Zaunbrecher’s six loving sons, John, Kevin, Matthew, Hugh, Aaron and Andrew.

Visitation took place on Sunday, June 15, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. and continued on Monday, June 16, 2008 from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Gueydan.
