Lady Pios earn top spot in playoffs

CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Lady Pios, as expected, were awarded the top seed in the Division IV state volleyball playoffs Monday.
The Lady Pios earned the top seed after a season in which they won 35 of 41 matches.
Along with the top seeding, the Lady Pios also earned a first-round bye and will take on the winner of No. 16 St. Katharine Drexel and No. 17 St. Charles next Monday in second-round action. The winner of that game will advance to the State Tournament in Kenner that begins on Friday, Nov. 14.
Iota (31-8) earned the No. 5 seed in Division III and will take on the winner of No. 12 North Vermilion and No. 21 Lake Area New Tech on Monday in the second round. Rayne is the No. 8 seed and will take on either No. 8 Westlake or No. 24 Mansfield next week as well.
Northside Christian garnered the No. 13 seed in Division V and will play host to district rival and No. 20 seed Westminster on Thursday at 6 p.m.
