Laryman “Larry, Toad” Guidry, Jr.

ESTHERWOOD - A Mass of Christian Burial for Laryman “Larry, Toad” Guidry, Jr., 62, of Estherwood will be celebrated on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Estherwood. Monsignor Russell Harrington and Father Randall Moreau will concelebrate the Mass. His brother Ricky and Dennis Guidry and friend Joe Stemplewski will provide musical selections. Burial will be in the Estherwood Cemetery.

The family has requested visitation to be held on Sunday, July 28, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley, LA with a rosary being recited by father Randall Moreau, KC council 4791 ND Msgr. Mallo Assembly Fourth Degree Knights. The Fourth Degree Knights will stand honor guard. Visitation will continue on Monday July 29, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Larry passed away Thursday July 25, 2013 at 12:20 p.m. at his home in Estherwood.

Larry was a native and lifelong resident of Estherwood, a 1969 graduate of Midland High School where he was a star football player and track athlete. Coach Richard “Pizz” Pizzollatto, his coach at the time, bestowed on Larry the nickname “Toad” because of his unique jumping style. He was a 1973 graduate of McNeese State University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He started his first job while attending McNeese State as a bookkeeper for Broussard Farms. After obtaining his degree, he entered employment with the Estherwood Insurance Agency and then acquired his Real Estate and Notary License.

Larry was a lifelong member of Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Estherwood. As a youth he served as an altar server and he continued his service to the church as Usher and was a past member of the parish council.

He was an active member of the K of C Council 4791 having served as Grand Knight for three terms and served other offices. He was selected Knight of the Year several times and he and his wife were honored as family of the year. “Toad” was cherished as the main cook for the K of C Council for numerous years.

He was also an active member of Msgr. George Mollo Fourth Degree Assembly 0325 where he served as Faithful Navigator and received the Order of Merit.

He was a member of the Estherwood Volunteer Fire Department. He served as secretary/treasurer of the department and was the only Fire Fighter One certified member.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years Brenda Alice Broussard Guidry of Estherwood; one daughter, Tara Abshire and husband Chris of Crowley; son Craig Guidry of Estherwood and Fiancé Amy Richard; two granddaughters Laila and Raimi Abshire; his mother Audrey Broussard Guidry of Estherwood; sisters Karen G. Klumpp and husband Keith of Estherwood; Denise G. Gravot and husband Frank of Iota; four brothers Kenneth Guidry and wife Mary of Estherwood; Michael Guidry of Lafayette; Richard “Ricky” Guidry of Estherwood and Dennis Guidry and wife Cathy of Estherwood and sister-in-law Mary Jane Guidry of Estherwood.

Preceding Larry in death were his father Laryman L. Guidry, Sr.; brother Timothy “Timmy” Guidry; maternal grandparents Paulite and Edmay Clostio Broussard, paternal grandparents Dave and Grace Gary Guidry; niece Kammie Klumpp; great nephews Logan, Alden and Kaden Guidry.

Serving as pallbearers are John E. Hains II, Scott Broussard, Todd Guidry, Howard Fruge, Christopher Swain and Shelby Vincent.

Honorary pallbearers are Shannon, Gerad, Kyle, Michael and Robert Guidry and John Patrick Broussard.
