‘Ladies, Sigh No More’ cast announced

The Teen Acadia Players have announced the cast for its upcoming production of the tragic comedy, “Ladies, Sigh No More,” set for Feb. 13 - 16 at the Acadia Parish Center for the Arts and Culture.

Written by Thomas Hischak, the play is being produced by special arrangement with Brooklyn Publishers, LLC.

“Ladies, Sigh No More” sees Shakespeare’s leading ladies all together on one stage in a battle of personalities, quirks and idiosyncrasies.

Setting the stage, the regal but cold and calculating Lady Macbeth, who will be portrayed by Rachel LaCroix, is engaged in a game of chess with a very young and nervous Lady Anne, who will be played by Sidney Gilder. The shrewish quick-witted outspoken Kate, to be played by Dilyn Stewart, challenges the intelligent Cordelia, to be played by Michaela Jabusch, for rights to the sofa. 

The distracted and rather distant Ophelia, whose role will be filled by Katt Barousse, cuts out paper flowers as Desdemona, a desperate girl with wild untamed hair, to be portrayed by Lauren Babineaux, sews handkerchiefs. The rather naïve and innocent Juliet, who will be played by Jessica Clayton, a newcomer to the group, is confused by Monopoly.

Zach Wright will act as Jamison, a carefree and indifferent orderly who is wrangled into the middle of each lady’s story. All this takes place while a handsome, mysterious man, to be played by Wyatt Kennedy, seems to be intrigued by the fate of these ladies.

Is this an Elizabethan ladies club, or a literary loony bin? Only Dr. Wells, who will be portrayed by Adelle Arceneaux, seems to know for sure as she tries to help some of Shakespeare’s heroines figure out their personal problems and bring closure to their theatrical lives. When Juliet is asked to reenact her tragic story, matters get out of hand and all of the ladies are caught up in the act. This comedy ultimately twists and turns its way to a happy ending.

The Acadia Parish Center for the Arts and Culture is located at 5:30 Mill St. in Crowley.

Showings will begin at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 - 16, and there will be a special 2 p.m. matinee on Feb. 13.

Capacity is limited to 50 seats per performance, and it is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students with school I.D.s, and they can be purchased through www.theacadiaplayers.com and on www.facebook.com/acadia players.
