La. Fur and Wildlife Festival this weekend in Cameron

Interested in Louisiana’s “oldest and coldest” festival? Head to Cameron this weekend for the annual La. Fur and Wildlife Festival.

The festival begins on Friday, Jan.. 10, at the fairgrounds at Pat’s of Cameron. The carnival gates open at noon, and admission is $10 per person, with children 12 and under admitted free. Ryan Foret and the Foret Tradition will take the stage that evening at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 11, the festivities kick off at 7 a.m. with the beginning of the Gumbo Cook-Off. A champion will be selected for each division in one of the following categories: seafood, poultry and wild game. An overall champion will be selected from the three divisions.

The fairgrounds open and the carnival begins at 9 a.m.

At 10 a.m. there will be a variety of demonstrations and activities on the festival stage, including muskrat and nutria skinning, trap setting and oyster shucking. 

The parade will begin at 1 p.m., with participants lining up at Cameron Construction Yard east of Cameron.

At  3 p.m., the duck and goose calling competition will begin while Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie take the stage.

Bag of Donuts will round out the evening, playing at 7 p.m.
