‘Belle Out’ tea to support breast cancer awareness

‘Belle Out: Southern Belles fighting the fight and making strides to save lives.’

Every year the Crowley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta makes breast cancer awareness one of its top priorities, and this year is no different.

In the past, the women of the sorority have sponsored a breast cancer awareness walk, but this year will see an entirely different event. On Saturday, Oct. 25, the group will join with Elegant Events by Cotessa to host a “Belle Out” tea party at the C.F. Ladd Masonic Hall, and it is hoped that the affair will give the women involved more time for fellowship.

Although the walk was always a rewarding and fulfilling experience, the participants walked and then went home. It is hoped that the “Belle Out” will provide a greater opportunity for attendees to interact with breast cancer survivors, fighters and family members.

According to the Office on Women’s Health, U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, African-American women are more likely than all other women to die from breast cancer, with their tumors often being found at later, more advanced stages.

The theme for the event is, “Southern Belles fighting the fight and making strides to save lives.”

The “Belle Out” will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 1 p.m, and refreshments will be served. Appropriate attire will include dresses and pink hats.

The entire community is invited, and proceeds from the $10 admission fee will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The C.F. Ladd Masonic Hall is located at 624 W. 5th St. in Crowley.
