Annual Hoffpauir family reunion planned for Sept. 1

The Hoffpauir Family Association board of directors met in May at the fellowship hall of the Indian Bayou United Methodist Church to discuss the 2014 reunion.

This year’s reunion, held every year on Labor Day, will take place on Monday, Sept. 1. In the event that a hurricane results in rescheduling, the alternate date will be Saturday, Sept. 13.

In order to keep the business session of the reunion shorter, the board of directors will have printed copies of the minutes and treasurer’s reports available at the registration, and the memorial reading and eulogy will be condensed.

In order to decrease costs, the directors decided to replace the annual letter with a postcard including only the necessary basic information about the reunion.

Prizes will continue to be awarded to the oldest and youngest family members attending, as well as to the person who traveled farthest. Family members 90 years of age and older will continue to receive certificates.

The board also voted to recognize and honor any living family member who is a veteran of WWII this year and to add veterans of the other wars each year thereafter.

Family members who are WWII veterans or have a family member who is should call Elaine Simon at (337) 783-7268 or e-mail her at musiclady1935@yahoo.com. If a veteran cannot attend the reunion, his or her name will be read at the reunion and a certificate will be mailed.

At last year’s reunion, two members brought laptop computers to assist in genealogy searches using the current family CD. This year there will also be a scanner provided to add photographs to the family  history. Photo scanning will begin at 9 a.m. Famly members are encouraged to find pictures of ancestors and bring them to be scanned. All original pictures will be returned immediately to their owners.

Family members are reminded to send Charlie Hoffpauir, the association president, the names of any family members who have died since the last reunion or who have never been recognized in a memorial before. He can be reached at (281) 581-9151 or charlieh@wt.net.

Anyone with Hoffpauir blood, name or connection is invited to the Hoffpauir Annual Reunion at the Indian Bayou United Methodist Church on Monday, Sept. 1.
