Attakapas Study Club of Crowley celebrates hats at March meeting

The Attakapas Study Club of Crowle met on Wednesday, March 11, at the home of Elizabeth Regan.

Regan’s residence was decorated with Easter decorations and pictures of hats. 

President Barbara Lengefeld presided over the business part of the meeting and then called on Jackie Buescher, who presented the program. The program was entitled “Easter Hat Parade” and club members were decked out in many different types of hats.

Buescher opened the program by putting on a straw hat for sunny days and a rain bonnet for rainy days. She explained that her program was about her life and the many hats she wore at the different stages of her life. She started with a baby bonnet and put on numerous head coverings represented important events in her life. She wore a child’s Easter hat, a scarf to represent her teenage years, a graduation tassel, a hat to work at J.C. Penney, a wedding veil, a convertible hat and a variety of others.

Throughout the program, she used the sunny days hat and the rainy days bonnet to demonstrate the good times and the bad. She ended the program by putting on the rain bonnet to represent the current weather in southwest Louisiana.

After  the members thanked Buescher and told her how much they enjoyed the program, the hostesses, Ella Bertrand and Shirley Griffin, served Easter-themed refreshments. The serving table was decorated with a centerpiece of a number of miniature hats made by Jackie Keyes.

There were 15 members and two guests present for the meeting. In addition to those already mentioned, members in attendance were Erma Breaux, Bettie Duhon, Shirley Griffin, Bonnie Matirne, Gerry Meche Jean Oubre, Joanna Pruitt, Jeri Stevenson, Ethel Thibodeaux and Roy Lynn Trahan. Priscilla Simar and Norma Nix were guests.
