Attakapas Study Club Day proclaimed
In celebration of its 90th anniversary, Crowley’s Attakapas Study Club, founded in 1924, hosted a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Crowley City Hall on Wednesday, March 12.
The event was well attended, and Mayor Greg Jones was on hand to welcome the ladies and their guests and to proclaim the day as Attakapas Study Club Day.
Mayor Jones’ proclamation was as follows:
“Whereas, on March 17, 1924, thirty women from the Crowley area signed the charter establishing the Attakapas Chapter of Delphians; and
“Whereas, the club met bi-monthly for the original purpose of higher education, self-improvement, and social progress; and
“Whereas, members continued to meet faithfully, from 1924 through 2014, striving to achieve their stated goals and sometimes becoming affiliated with state, national, and international women’s organizations; and
“Whereas, the effect of this group on the larger community has been positive and supportive as evidenced by the many worthy projects enhanced by their efforts; and
“Now, Therefore, in collaboration with the members of the Attakapas Study Club celebrating 90 years of Service, I, Greg A. Jones by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Crowley do hereby proclaim that the citizens of Crowley observe and celebrate March 12, 2014 as
