The home of Wayne and Stephanie Leger in Rayne was the setting for a baby shower held in honor of Mrs. Matt McGuffee of Monroe, the former Mary-Kathryn Doucet of Rayne.
Maternal grandparents-to-be are Malcolm and Margaret Doucet of Rayne.
Paternal grandparents-to-be are Debbie and Tony McGuffee, and Tina and Rhett Mathieus, all of Monroe.
Hosting the afternoon courtesy were Stephanie Leger, Marlene Thibodeaux, Kathy Doucet, Yvette Ohlenforst, Pebbles Mire, Melissa D. Thibault, Marci D. McGovern, Maggie Doucet and Margaret G. Doucet.
The Leger home featured a flower and bow theme for the baby shower, in addition to baby pictures of Mary-Kathryn and Matt noted. A vintage highchair also held a special place in the reception area, along with large paper flowers, stringed paper flowers and bows, and bouquets of fresh flowers.
Guests were served a variety of refreshments, including a sandwich tray, chicken wraps, Mexican dip, cheese ball, fruit tray, fruit salad, solid white and solid pink M & M’s, petit fours topped with paper flowers in various shades of pink, raspberry, lemon, and plain, shortbread cookies, mini muffin-size rice crispy treats topped with the mother-to-be’s favorite frosting, “Rainbow Chip”, along with beverages of iced coffee, black-cherry lemonade, raspberry-lemonade punch and sparkling wine.
The guest registry included a Dr. Suess book, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go,” which was given to the mother-to-be at her kindergarten graduation and has continued to use as a signature book throughout her life’s major events.
As a surprise for the mother-to-be, included in each shower invitation was an insert asking each guest to “adorn their gift with a hair accessory - every little girl’s necessity” to jump start Scarlett’s fashion supply.
As shower favors, each guest was given a single-serve popcorn bag sleeved with a message that read, “Popping with excitement for Scarlett Kathryn” designed and created by Mary-Kathryn’s sisters, Melissa and Marci of doucetlettering.com.
For the special event, Mary-Kathryn wore an ecru-colored vintage lace empire waist peasant dress. In place of a corsage, her dress was accented with a flower belt made especially for her by her sister Maggie and sister-in-law Margaret.
Approximately 30 guests were in attendance from Rayne, Monroe, Shreveport and Houston, Texas.
Special guest in attendance was Dot. O. Leger, honoree’s maternal grandmother and anticipated great-grandmother to Scarlett Kathryn McGuffee.
Scarlett’s expected date of arrival is Sept. 19, 2015.
