Beta Sigma Phi members enjoy Christmas luncheon

Brenella Joubert hosted the annual Christmas luncheon of Laureate Mu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi at her home on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Following a delicious lunch prepared by the hostess and members Glenda Atkinson, Shirley Griffin, Connie Jaubert, Elsie Rowell, Gloria Stutes, Nancy Tislow and Phyllis Triggs, Jaubert presented a program on the history of wreaths.

The making of wreaths is an ancient and honored art that began about a thousand years before the birth of Christ. The Christmas wreath symbolizes the strength of life overcoming the forces of winter. Today, beautifully decorated wreaths are not only an integral part of the December holidays, but are popular throughout the year, decorated to fit each season.

The traditional Christmas wreath is hung any time from right after Thanksgiving to mid-December and may be left hanging through the winter months.  Joubert then assisted the members in making Christmas wreaths to take home, and Triggs led the members in singing Christmas carols.

During a short business meeting, those present planned to meet at the Rice Theater on Saturday afternoon to attend the performance of the play “Christmas Reunion.” Cleaning products were collected by Stutes, service chairman, to be taken to Miss Helen’s Soup Kitchen. The January meeting is to be held at the home of Rowell.

The enjoyable Christmas gathering concluded with the secret sister gift exchange.
