Cormiers celebrate 40 years of marriage

Over 150 guests were recently on hand to surprise Mary and Johnny Cormier Sr. at a 40th wedding anniversary celebration.

The party, thrown for the Cormiers by their family, was held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Knights of Columbus home in South Crowley. Guests in attendance came from numerous points throughout the state, as well as Oklahoma.

Mrs. Cormier is the daughter of the late Dometile and Nelson Marceaux, and Mr. Cormier is the son of Nita Cormier and the late Hugh Paul Cormier. The couple was wed on June 1, 1974, at St. John the Baptist Church in Lyons Point.

Justice of the Peace Rusty Broussard was on hand at the event to give the couple a blessing and officiate the renewal of their wedding vows.

Additionally, David Cormier, Woodrow Marceaux, Joanna Primeaux and Lisa Schexnayder, all members of the original wedding party were able to attend the special celebration.

The KC hall was elaborately decorated in a country/western theme with bandanas, burlap and cow prints, giving guests a “down home on the farm” feeling. There was also a special photo booth backdrop where the guests used fun and silly props to have their photographs made for a memory album for the Cormiers.

For dessert, those in attendance enjoyed a special three-tier “bride’s cake” iced in white, decorated with frosting roses and crowned with a personalized 40th anniversary keepsake topper.

They also enjoyed the “groom’s cake,” a square chocolate confection decorated with a farm theme.

The Cormiers, lifelong residents of Lyons Point, have four children, John Cormier Jr. and his wife, Ali, of Basile; Electa Larry and her husband, Jarrod, of Lyons Point; Leonard Cormier and his wife, Jamie, of Lyons Point; and Cecilia Duplechan and her husband, Tim, of Iowa; and 19 grandchildren. Mr. Cormier is employed as an OMI for Ensco, working out of Mexico 28/28.
