Dolores Nutt students ‘Shining Starz’ at 2015 dance recital

On Saturday, May 9, the staff and students of Dolores L. Nutt School of Dance presented their 2015 Dance Recital, “Shining Starz,” at the Historic Rice Theater in Crowley.
With an array of theatrical images in the background, the audience was entertained with music for tap, ballet, jazz, hip hop and point.
Deborah Nutt Whiting, the mistress of ceremony, introduced the owner and choreographer, her mother, Dolores Nutt, followed by the class assistants, Michaela Jabusch, Jennifer Meche, Robbie Simon and the class demonstrator, Taren Adams.
The awards ceremony began with Madisun Lacombe receiving the Program Award. Receiving the third-year medal were Kadie Felts, Gwen Simon and Shailee Trahan. The fifth-year trophy went to Alana Abshire, Diana Mouton, Darlene Petry, Rebecca Phillips, Tayler Prather and Madysen Simon. The sixth-year medal was presented to Brooke Mullener, Ryleigh Oestriecher and Kiersten Trahan.
Four students received the eighth-year trophy. First was Hannah P. Abshire, whose father, Jarrod Abshire, and mother, Cristie Collins, honored her with flowers. Emma Broussard received flowers from her father, Roland Broussard. Erin Hetzler’s parents, Nancy and Kevin Hetzler presented her with flowers, and Madisun Lacombe’s grandmothers, Kathy Hawthorn and Carrie Hanks, gave her a bouquet of flowers.
Two very deserving young ladies, Taren Adams and Caitlynn Falcon, received the 10th-year plaque. Taren’s father, Russell Adams, and her brother, Christopher, gave her flowers. Caitlynn, received flowers from her sister, Megan Falcon, and niece, Faith Falcon.
Performing a tap routine to “Good Music” and jazz routines to “Razzle Dazzle” and “Mission Impossible” were Lelia Phillips, Rebecca Phillips, Diana Mouton, Jennifer Meche, Robbie Simon, Darlene Petry, Sandra Trahan and Gwen Simon.
A ballet dance to “You’ve Got a Friend,” was performed by students coupled with friends or family members, including Madison Lejeune with Barry Trahan, Natalie and Alex Domingue, Brooke Mullener with Logan Fontenot, Morgan Richard with Joseph Charpentier, Kiersten and Scotty Trahan, Emma and Roland Broussard, Hannah and Jared Abshire, Megan Pellissier and Timothy Lejeune, Tayler Prather with Michaela Jabusch, and Kaytlin Keller with Steven Miller. The girls also performed a tap to “Cotton Eyed Joe” and a jazzy hip hop routine to “Scream and Shout.”
Blaire Gaspard, Emma Cradeur, Christopher Adams and Julia Trahan performed a tap to “New York, New York” and a ballet to “Rhythm in My Nursery Rhyme” before jazzing it up to “Boogie Shoes.”
Performing to “Child of Mine” were Ryleigh and Allyson Oestriecher, Kadie and Rachel Felts, Ava and Alecia Bergeaux, Jenna and Anitra Hanks, Madysen and Gwen Simon, Chyenne and Brandi French, Shailee and Nancy Trahan, Laihani Langlinais and Tannia Mouton and Mariah and Ashley Penn. The students also performed a tap dance to “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” and a jazz dance to “Best Days of My Life.”
A lyrical ballet to “Beneath You’re Beautiful,” a fast tap to “Getting in the Mood” and a jazz hip hop to a “Jazzy Music Mix” were performed by Michaela Jabusch, Hannah R. Abshire and Madelyn Hanks.
Alana Abshire, Caitlynn Falcon, Erin Hetzler, Madisun Lacombe and Taren Adams danced to “Jump With Me Baby” for tap and “Shake It Off” for a hip hop jazz routine. Their ballet routine was a masked masquerade ball, with Michaela Jabusch on point performing to “Blue Danube.”
The finale, which included Nutt along with the entire staff and all the students that performed, ended the musical evening with cheers and applause from the audience.
