Family of Walburga and Joseph Ohlenforst reunites in Rayne
Descendants of the Maria Walburga Thevis and H. Joseph Ohlenforst family gathered for a reunion on Saturday, May 10, at the Southside Community Center in Rayne.
Walburga and Joseph were married in 1919 and had 11 children: Fr. William J. Ohlenforst, Aloysius “Dutch” Ohlenforst, George Lawrence Ohlenforst, Cecilia Ohlenforst Bernard, Theresa Ohlenforst Simoneaux, Andrew Ohlenforst, Sr. Margaraet Ohlenforst MHS, Dorothy “Dot” Ohlenforst Leger, Joseph “Sonny” Ohlenforst, Bernadette Ohlenforst Monte and Thomas “Tommy” Ohlenforst.
Of those children, Sr. Margaret Ohlenforst, Dorothy Leger, Joseph Ohlenforst and Bernadette Monte are still living and were on hand for the event.
There are a total of 30 third-generation descendants, 69 fourth-generation descendants and 19 fifth-generation descendants.
Approximately 75 family members were present for the reunion, which began with Sr. Margaret Ohlenforst offering up a prayer for the members of the Thevis-Ohlenforst family, both living and deceased.
After a covered dish meal, those in attendance enjoyed an afternoon of fellowship and games including horseshoes and water pitch. Updated family genealogy booklets were also distributed.
The family is planning another reunion to be held in two years.
