Golden anniversary celebrated by Smiths

 

On Nov. 28, 2013, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin “Choppy” Smith of Mermentau celebrated 50 years of love and marriage.

The Smiths, who were both born and raised in Mermentau Cove, were married on Nov. 28, 1963, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Mermentau. 

Mrs. Smith is the former Sylvia Duhon, and her parents are the late Adeline and Peterson Duhon. Mr. Smith is the son of the late Evelyn and Woodrow Smith.

Both of the Smiths are now retired, Mrs. Smith from the Acadia Parish School Board and Mr. Smith from the Acadia Parish Tax Assessor’s Office, where he was chief deputy.

The Smiths have three children – Damon Smith and his wife, Trisha, of Houston, Texas; Tanya Smith of Mermentau and Tim Smith of Baltimore, Md. They are the proud grandparents of Elizabeth Smith of Houston.
