Laureate Mu hears of Kelly’s Landing
Lynn Hundley, who with her husband Kelly owns and operates Kelly’s Landing, was the guest speaker at the meeting of Laureate Mu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held at the home of Jean Hanks on March 3.
Kelly’s Landing is a local tourist attraction located north of Crowley. It features antique farm equipment, a John Deere toy museum and a farm memorabilia collection. Also of interest are rice field and crawfish pond tours, which may include lunch or dinner. Hundley told the group that people from all over the United States come to enjoy the attraction.
Following the program members agreed that they would like to include Kelly’s Landing as a cultural outing in the near future.
In the business portion of the meeting, President Nancy Tislow reported that she had received the Founder’s Day packet and that she had made arrangements to hold the event at the Rice Palace on April 30. Program assignments for the activity were made.
Motion was made, seconded and approved that the chapter accept the present slate of officers to serve for the 2015-2016 year. Present officers are Tislow, president; Shirley Griffin, vice president; Brenella Joubert, secretary; and Glenda Atkinson, treasurer.
Gloria Stutes, service chairman, collected paper towels to be donated to Miss Helen’s Soup Kitchen and requested that members bring spray bleach to the April meeting.
Plans were made to honor Valentine sweetheart, Phyllis Trigg with lunch at Chef Roy’s on March 13. Connie Jaubert reminded members of the cultural outing to New Iberia to visit the Bayou Teche Museum exhibit “Rodrigue Comes Home: Under Iberia’s Live Oaks with George and His Blue Dog” on March 26.
Following the meeting social time and refreshments were enjoyed by Hanks, Atkinson, Jaubert, Joubert, Elsie Rowell, Stutes, Tislow, Trigg and Hundley.
