Laureate Mu hears from Second Chance Paws

Members of Laureate Mu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Elsie Rowell on July 7.
Following the opening ritual and pledge to the flag the hostess introduced the guest speaker, Gayle Lormand, spokesperson for Second Chance Paws.
Lormand shared details about how she became interested in rescuing dogs after seeing a dog that seemed to be extremely neglected. Since then she has worked as a member of Second Chance Paws to help dogs connect with loving and caring owners. The organization is a nonprofit rescue group based out of Crowley with members and foster homes located throughout Acadiana. It consists of a small group of volunteers that rescue dogs from local shelters to keep them from being euthanized. These dogs are then fostered at homes of volunteers where they are cared for and then put up for adoption. The group can be found on most Saturdays at PetSmart with their rescue dogs. Pictures of animals that are available for adoption can be found on the group’s Facebook page.
Gloria Stutes, service chairman, collected stainless steel scrubbers for Miss Helen’s Soup Kitchen and towels for the Welcome House. Members were asked to bring Ajax soft scrub for Miss Helen’s to the August meeting.
Treasurer Glenda Atkinson reported that she had written checks for donations to the Welcome House and Girl Scouts for their trip to New York.
Connie Jaubert, planner for cultural outings, reported that all had enjoyed the trip to New Iberia’s Teche Museum and lunch afterwards at Clementine’s. She will look into the possibility of attending the Dave Robichaux Festival in New Iberia in April and making a trip to Breaux Bridge in the near future.
President Nancy Tislow went over items on the year’s budget.
Following the meeting, the hostess served refreshments to those present, including Atkinson, Shirley Griffin, Jean Hanks, Jaubert, Brenella Joubert, Stutes, Tislow, and Phyllis Triggs.
